Resources that provide some useful context for the micro-credential workshop:
- Digital Promise has a solid introduction to micro-credentials. The first page describes their design principles and introduces their ecosystem. The one-minute video is informative, if brief, and the pages linked from the left nav bar provide a bit more depth. The three pages after the introduction (How It Works, Sample Micro-credentials, and Micro-credentials in Action) are good, but I might hold off on them until after the workshop.
- KQED provides a nice overview of what’s being done on the ground, with Kettle Morraine in Wisconsin being a focal point. The article isn’t Pollyannish, however, and confronts some of the challenges of developing and implementing a micro-credential system. We certainly won’t shy away from those, either.
- Getting Smart recently put together an overview of micro-credentials with a particular focus on their design, and the post also provides a nice list of resources at the end.
