Tom Hierck, consultant with the Leadership and Learning Center, worked with about 70 staff members from Region 3 and the Central Carolina RESA for three days this week on implementing the Rigorous Curriculum Design model, focusing on curricular unit design during the last two days. Participants engaged in the design of units, including unwrapping the priority standards, creating graphic organizers, writing big ideas and essential questions, creating pre-, post- and progress-monitoring checks, planning engaging learning experiences, writing effective and appropriate assessments, differentiating instruction, and identifying pertinent vocabulary.
Tom will be returning on October 15-16 to continue the work around designing curriculum to implement the Common Core State Standards. Those interested in attending can register on the CCRESA website. Keith Beamon also is available, upon request, to assist school districts in their implementation of CCSS.
