Dr. Bonnie Bolado from NCCAT will be facilitating this session intended for any K-12 teacher, instructional coach, or school leader. When establishing classroom cultures, understanding that poverty does not define a student is critical. Based on the work of Gorski (2017), this session will build awareness about the research of families experiencing poverty and demystify poverty as a deficient culture. We will explore the principles of equity literacy and discuss how these principles can improve our classrooms and schools. Additionally, participants will have opportunities to collaborate about this critical topic with colleagues from across NC.
Participants will receive 2 contact hours of CEU credit.
